Vita
Sue Ryall studied French and Communication Theory at Huddersfield University before completing her teaching diploma for Modern Languages at Bath. She then worked as a Teacher of Modern Languages in schools in England, France and Germany, before taking up the post of Director of Studies for a language school in Moscow in 2002. In 2004 she moved to Hamburg where she was able to continue in her Directorial role, later leaving teaching entirely in order to study Music Education (clarinet) at Hamburg’s College of Music and Drama. Upon arrival in Hamburg, Sue Ryall was immediately taken on as clarinettist with The Hamburg University Orchestra and between 2011 and 2013, was responsible for the organisation and supervision of both the Hamburg University Symphony Orchestra and the Oratorio Choir before transferring to the research group Naturbilder in August 2013. Having completed her music degree, she is currently conducting PhD research into the absolute and perceived timbral qualities of different clarinet systems. In addition, she is active as a freelance translator and lecturer and can also be heard on stage in either symphony orchestra concerts, chamber music events or solo recitals.
